Amigurumi Chiyo-Chichi (Father Cat) from Azumanga Daioh – With Pattern

Posted 02/28/2010
Category Amigurumi Patterns - Anime

Azumanga Daioh

Chiyo-Chichi, the short tempered cat father of Chiyo-Chan makes, no sense and this is perhaps why I love him so. Rising from the fevered dreams of Osaka and Sakakke, he now takes Amigurumi crochet form in this newest and very easy pattern of mine.

In Amigurumi form he was rather simple to suss out, and though the embroidery on his face didn’t turn out quite as I had hoped, and his ears aren’t as straight as I might have liked, he is dreamy.

The legs seem to have more than 4 rounds in the picture?

And yet they don’t. Amazing right? Last round that gets sewn to the body might be looking taller than one stitch.

Do you join rounds or work in continuous rounds for this pattern?

      “18. repeat line 11 4 times for rows 12-15 (40)”

i dont understand. I have to increase like in the row 14, and repeat really 4 times?

Hi. Sorry that is a mistake. The pattern rounds had to be renumbered and I missed this. It’s not repeat round 11 it’s repeat round 17 πŸ™‚ Basically do SC around (1 SC in each SC from the previous row). I fixed the pattern as well, thanks for pointing it out!

thank so much, but this “4 times for rows 12-15” continues to confuse me.
Sorry, I speak Spanish, then it is more difficult to understand the pattern

OK Sorry it looked okay but it wasn’t, check now. It should be:

            17. SC around (40)
            18 – 22. repeat line 17 for rounds 18 through 22 (40)
            23. SC x 6 then INVDEC; repeat around (35)
            24. SC around (35) (stuff)
            25. SC x 5 then INVDEC; repeat around (30)
            26. SC around (30)
            27. SC x 4 then INV DEC; repeat around (25)
            28. SC around (25)
            29. SC x 3 then INVDEC; repeat around (20) (stuff)
            30. SC x 2 then INVDEC; repeat around (15)
            31. SC then INVDEC; repeat around (10)
            32. INV DEC x 3 then finish off and weave in tail

Hi! thank you so much for this pattern. I have one question: I’ve already made the entire pieces but it seems like the body is shorter . I count the rounds in the picture and it seems to have more than the 25 rounds written in the pattern??

Sorry if my english is wrong ^^u

      thanks!

I was thinking you were probably right because the few finished pieces I have seen didn’t look like mine… I thought perhaps they had overstuffed or something. I pulled him out (haven’t given him away so luckily I could!) and he had 32 rounds instead of 25. I looked through, couldn’t find my notes so I fixed the pattern based on how it looks the doll is done with regard to construct. This is one of the earlier patterns I wrote and I haven’t received much commentary on it so I didn’t know there was an issue. Thanks for the comment and for prompting me to check in to it. How the pattern is now should turn out more accurate. Basically the repeats of rounds with the same number of stitches were missing. Not sure how that happened, but I think that is why he was looking more ball shaped for many of the people that made him. Sorry for the inconvenience! Hopefully this turns out better… please let me know πŸ™‚

      23. SC x 2 then INVDEC; repeat around (15)
      24. SC then INVDEC; repeat around (8)

For that, after I do 23., when I finish 24., but I end up with 10. But I am following the directions correctly. What is going on?

It’s a mistake in the pattern, should read 10 not 8. I’ll fix shortly.

How many rows did you do for the legs, the arms and the ears?

The pattern calls for a total of 15 rounds for the arms, 4 for the legs and 5 for the ears. Just follow the pattern, it tells you what to do πŸ™‚

For the legs, it seems shorter than the picture. Do you repeat #4 a couple times? Help me please!

When stuffed and sewed on they do end up looking quite a bit longer than when they are just crocheted and sitting there not applied. Try pinning them on to the body, stuffed, with headpins and see if it looks okay. If you decide you do want to add some length, add a round or two of SC around. His legs are rather stubby though so you probably wouldn’t want to add more than 1 round.

Do you think you can make a tutorial (or tell me how) for wiring the arms. I need to see it because that’s the way I learn -.-;; I’m a newbe at this.

Hi, have a look at this tutorial video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBBfZZj5cp8 I made it for a Domo amigurumi but it’s the same technique and materials.

      11. SC around (40)
      12. repeat line 12 4 times for rows 14-16 (40)

That part confuses me… There’s no instruction for line 12? And what happened to line 13? Halp?

      But otherwise fantastic pattern!

        11. SC around (40)
        12. repeat line 11 4 times for rows 13-15 (40)
        16. SC x 6 then INVDEC; repeat around (35)
