Keroro Gunso (Sgt Frog) Amigurumi with Pattern

Keroro Gunso - Sgt Frog

Gunso San

Keroro Gunso is easily my favorite anime character; cute, wildly screwy, moody, kind of a little creep, has ambitions to take over the world and appreciates a good WcDonald’s burger. An alien invader from the planet Keron, he and his troop of subordinates are here to take over or destroy Pekopon (earth), though he wouldn’t mind acquiring a few more Gundam models along the way. It was first a manga and has since been made into an anime and move. If you haven’t seen the anime yet, I suggest you check it out if you enjoy comedies and wacky ensemble shows.

Keroro Gunso - Sgt Frog Sassy Pose

Sassy pose

Gunso San is made with wired arms and legs that are jointed using 8mm safety eyes, so he is very poseable. The safety eye joint give something solid to anchor the wiring to as well so he is more solid than wired limbs that aren’t rooted into the body. He is all amigurumi crochet other than the felt star on his tummy which turned out kind of terrible and sadly misshapen. The main body parts are done is medium worsted weight cotton yarn using a 3.5mm crochet hook. The smaller detail parts like his eyes mouth and tummy were all made with half strands of the same yarn with a 2.75mm hook, but could be done in crochet thread or light yarn or felt even.

I’ve been trying to make this pattern but the belly detail (the white part) doesn’t seem to match up with my keroro..

  5. toraguy says:

ok i’m trying to make a larger version of this and i’m stuck on the body part now i was easily able to make the head larger (i saw a post you left in the kirby pattern, beautiful design btw) and when i start making the body to make him bigger instead of ending on 24 stitches on row 4 i keep going till 42 stitches my problem comes from rows 6,7,8. i’ll use row 6 as an example, do i do one row of 28 stictch total and then a second of 56 stitches total? i’m totally lost and would love some help i can’t leave sgt unfinished and he’s the perfect size as compared to the anime (i used an F hook) many thanks

    • Emjay says:

Use the same ratio as you used for the head, so if for example, every round was doubled and spread across three rounds, do the same with the body and other parts. If you need more information, please let me know how many rounds you did for the head.

He is absolutely adorable! This is one of my favorite animes. So happy to see Keroro done like this. If there was ever a pattern that made me crave to learn amigurumi… this is totally it!! Thank you for posting this!

Hi there, I really appreciate this absolutely adorable pattern! My boyfriend loves Sgt. Frog and I was going to make this for him as a christmas present n.n I’m still kind of new to crocheting, and I’m a bit confused on rnd 3 of the head. It says it ends in 18 stitches, if I’m correct, and you’re saying to do a sc and inc in each stitch around, so basically 3 sc in every stitch? I’m wondering if that’s right or not. Thanks! :)

  9. Tammy says:

    Hello,
I just finished my keroro today and i love it! Thanks so much for the pattern!

I was wondering if you can also teach us how to modify the pattern for the other squad members.. such as kululu who has a different head piece and tamama chan’s face.

    thanks!

  10. Emily says:

Can you please explain in detail how you made the mouth (the red section) and the red star on his hat?

    • Emjay says:

The red star on his hat was embroidered on and the mouth could be done in either a piece of felt fabric glued or stitched in place. How to make the mouth is explained at the end of the chin detail instructions. If it is confusing or seems too complicated, try the felt :D
