This is my first amigurumi project (and am now hooked!). I made numerous attempts to do the chain stitch around the mouth with dismal results. Then I tried doing a chain stitch embroidery instead and it looks really good! Just wanted to share in case anybody else is having trouble with the surface chain stitch :)

made this for my 5 year old who is crazy about domo. It felt like it took forever on the length of the body but unavoidable. The pat outtern worked perfectly! He even stands up and you can maneuver and bend his arms. I have a very very happy little domo fan now. Just wanted to say thanks!

It's like a third the size so obviously less structural shaping can happen because there are way fewer stitches to make up the body. Smaller always means less detailed.

Hate to say it, but the link you posted for the other pattern, i dunno, i think this one is better. The hands are a better pattern, the mouth and teeth are better and the way the legs connect is better. This pattern has a awesome pattern for the legs, i love how you do the hip part longer and the legs just kind of fit perfectly into the body. The other pattern looks like the legs are just swen onto the body, and you don't want it to look like that.

This is the first free pattern that i have found that is just AWESOME. Very good instructions, anything you need help with there is a video for and it's a perfect pattern. I just now got into Amigurumi and this came out soooo wonderful. Usually the free patterns suck and you have to kind of do your own thing with them. Thank you for offering this wonderful free pattern. Easy to follow. The only thing that really hurts to do is the legs, after you slip stitch, to do the 24 back loop stitches. I see why this style of crocheting was created by Japan =)

Hi, I made the big Domo-kun for my boyfriend.
I crocheted in joined rounds and left a rectangle gap for the mouth. Later, I stitched the red felt behind the gap. The felt is sewed to a crocheted rectangle first to make it firmer.
The eyes are 9 mm black round eyes, ordered at http://www.etsy.com/shop/6060
