Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1) Amigurumi Playset Pattern
This playset was made for a commission for an amigurumi trade on reddit.com/r/gameswap with an awesome redditor that appears to be a fan of the show. I took the liberty of writing up the pattern as I went since it has been requested in the past and now seemed as good a time as any to deliver. The set is fairly structural in construction and needs plastic canvas reinforcement to ensure the pieces are well shaped and actually look like the characters and not bloated or puffed out when stuffed. Meatwad uses a modified popcorn stitch to create the lumps but apart from that, the pieces are fairly simple to put together. Anyone making it that might run into problems or get confused, please leave a comment for me to respond to.
The set was made using a 3.5 mm crochet hook and my stash of 100% cotton worsted weight yarn, colours listed below. Frylock and Master Shake both stand around 8 inches tall including the straw and fries. The facial details are felt and embroidery, and the jewel on Frylock’s back is painted felt.
Frylock

1. hook into second CH from hook, SC x 3, DC x 17; CH 1 then pop into other side of the CH and work back along the other side of each CH (demo video for working in both sides of a CH); (20)
2. DC x 17, SC x 3; CH 1 then pop your hook through the first SC from the beginning of the fry to make a slip stitch. You will fold your flat fry in half (think of the CHs as the spine of a card or book) and SL ST down the outside of the fry to secure it shut. This will make a stiff french fry shape.

French Fries (flat skinny ones, make 6, pale yellow)
CH 22
1. hook into third CH from hook, HDC x 20; CH 1 then pop into other side of the CH and work back along the other side of each CH (demo video for working in both sides of a CH); (20)
2. SC x 20; CH 1 then pop your hook through the first SC from the beginning of the fry to make a slip stitch. You will fold your flat fry in half (think of the CHs as the spine of a card or book) and SL ST down the outside of the fry to secure it shut. This will make a stiff french fry shape.
You can vary the length of the fries or make as many as you like. Make one skinny one that is 30 CHs long and wire that fry to make Frylock’s arm that he uses for doing stuff. Reinforce the box with plastic canvas before stuffing so it does not puff or bloat and looks like a french fry box. Eyes and facial hair should be done in felt.

Meatwad
Lumps
Meatwad’s lumps are made using a modified popcorn stitch. Put them wherever you wish, replacing any single crochet stitch with a popcorn stitch lump. Because the lumps look best applied unevenly throughout Meatwad, add them as you go in a way that looks good to you. Lumps are optional but he doesn’t look very much like Meatwad without them.
To make a lump:
DC twice in the same stitch. After the second DC is completed, remove your hook, pop it through the first DC then back through the loop and pull the loop through that first DC.
Meatwad body (made in a spiral)
CH 2 or Magic Ring or start however you like.
1. SC x 8; (8)
2. INC x 8; (16)
3. SC then INC; repeat 7 more times; (24)

14. SC x 3, INVDEC; repeat 7 more times; (32)
15. SC, INVDEC, SC; repeat 7 more times; (24)
16. SC, INVDEC; repeat 7 more times; (16) stuff
17. INVDEC x 8; finish off and leave long tail for sewing shut.
These are awesome.. <3

I apologize, I am new to the site and did not see the FAQ section. Thank you so much for your patterns, I will make sure to make a donation, whether I end up making some of these for other folks or not!
If I were to make a set of these to sell, how much would you deem appropriate to send to you since I would be using your pattern? 10% of each sale? Or would you prefer a one time buy of the pattern? Or for me just to give them away? I am making a set for my husband right now, for our personal use, but was musing for the future, and wanted to run this past you.
After doing Frylock several times I still don’t understand how you can do 26 scs on round 18. As it is written the 26 scs & the 4 incs it would equal 60 sts….wouldn’t it?
sigh…
I see you changed round 18 of Frylock from 26 scs to the 22 scs i kept getting and asking you about inwhich your reply was a very hurtful and demeaning sigh. Apparently, my using 22 scs wasn’t as stupid as your sigh implied.
Dude… the sigh was because I hate stitch count. Have you seen my FAQ? HATE IT. I fixed it before I left the comment. Listen, if you can’t grasp why getting 4 or 6 or however many questions from the same person about a pattern, some of which were already addressed in linked tutorials, is a little bit frustrating, when on top of it I have to go back and recount things and it’s not adding up for me or making much sense because I hate and struggle with stitch count anyhow, then perhaps you should think about how much fun that is on top of the other dozens of questions I get and answer, for no money or direct benefit to me. I actually thought “sigh…” was a pretty nice way to sum it up.
On round 21 of Frylock I’m gettin 49 sts…do I skip the last three?
Pull back to your last slip stitches and try again please.
Yes, I must have messed up somewhere! Now I ended up having to do 22 sc on round 18 of Frylock instead of 26 sc to get 52 total. I’m just going to start over! lol! Thank you!
I love your Frylock! I was making mine in a spiral and it never came out right. I watched the great tutorial on joining, but I still need help. On round 5 of Frylock it says to skip something ( ch 1?) on next round, but it says to join & ch 1 at the end of round 5….what am I supposed to skip?
In the next round, that CH that you just did, don’t crochet into it, just skip over it and ignore it.
Thank you.I can’t believe I didn’t realize that….duh!
Thank you.I can’t believe I didn’t realize that….duh! I’m stuck again! on round 9 of master shake’s lid do you do the slip sts in the back loops of rnd 9 and then do rnd 10 in the sl sts? If I do rnd 9 then a rnd of sl sts there won’t be any back loops. I am having a hard time with this for some reason.Sorry about that!
Did you watch the tutorial video? They’re still there and the linked video demonstrates it pretty thoroughly.
I did watch it now it’s perfect! Thank you. Am I the only one getting 42 sts on round 7 of Frylock?
Yes you are.
7. INC, SC x 18, INC, CH 1 (skipped over in the next round), INC, SC x 18, INC; join then CH 1; (44)
INC (2)
SC x 18 (18)
INC (2)
That’s a total of 22, you double it and it’s 44 stitches in the round. The CH’s don’t count and you don’t work in them, so if you are getting 42, you made a mistake somewhere. Previous round had 40 and there are 4 INCs in this round, it adds up.
Your patterns are brilliant! Thank you for sharing them!
Even I love those cartoons and they are excellent. Reading your blog was great fun. Thanks a lot!
I really like making creative things and trying different patterns like this. The Frylock is looking superb and all other pieces of craft are great too. Thank you so much for the nice ideas.
Hi. I love all your patterns, they’re amazing!
I’m making Frylock for my friends birthday, how did you attach the the fry top to the fry box? Did you use the yellow tail from the fry top? I’m worried the yellow will show through to the other side red fry box. I’m thinking of attaching it with red yarn, but wasn’t sure.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
I used the yellow tail but I stitched on the inside being careful to go under a single loop from the inside of the fabric instead of stitching back and forth from the inside to the outside, in which case yellow would show through.
Hi,
For the french fries do I leave a tail after finishing of so I can use it to sew to the french fry top. Or am I suppose to cut off tail and use thread to attach to the fry bottom?
Yes leave long tails and use them for sewing. 🙂
do you have a template for the felt pieces? my drawing skill leave much to be desired. thanks
No sorry. Try eyeballing it 😀
This might be a dumb question but do you crochet around the canvas or did you put it in after? Never used canvas before. 🙂 Thanks!
Pop it in after your piece is crocheted. 🙂
I’m attempting to make Frylock for my friends birthday. I’ve just gotten to the french fry top and I’m either being really dense (highly likely), but you haven’t said how many to chain at the start.
You have some great patterns on here. Thanks for making them, and keep up the good work!
You’re brave, a surprisingly small amount of people have tried those patterns. You are right I forgot to include that. CH x 17 should get you sorted out. Thanks!
All I can say is I love you! I always get weird looks when I mention MC Chris, and all my friends looked at me like I had grown a third eye or something when I squeed about hugging him at his concert last year…..I am going to HAVE to learn to crochet better so I can make these guys!
Thank you
[…] two projects were an Amigurumi Master Shake, using this pattern, on one of my favorite blogs: nerdigurumi . It’s a great pattern… and after I remembered how to crochet in the round (I do it […]
Is master shake stuffed at all? If not what type of plastic canvas did you mean when describing the structure of the characters. I’m about to start him just wanted to know what to buy to keep him upright.
thank you
Kelly
Yes he is stuffed. The plastic canvas I used is 14 mesh plastic cross stitch mesh, you can find it at most craft stores and the big box stores like Walmart. A large sheet was enough for Master shake and cost $.97 http://www.joann.com/plastic-canvas-8-1-2-x11-2-pkg/prd32529/ or http://www.joann.com/darice-stiff-plastic-canvas-7-count-12-x18-clear/zprd_01971233a/ is an example.
i must say, i am utterly impressed with your ATHF (even though i’ve only found them funny when drunk) they look amazing gj 🙂
There is only one thing i don’t understand about this pattern. The SC, DC, INC, ect… It would be great if you could email me back and tell me what that means. I really want to do this project. For some reason I can’t watch videos on this laptop. Everytime i try to it fails to download. So it would be really great if you could give me more details. ^.^ This is the best project i’ve ever seen!!!!!! :)) email-kotton_kandy69@aol.com
Do you mean you don’t understand the terminology used in the pattern? Have you had a look at the terminology index http://nerdigurumi.com/crochet-terminology-and-glossary.html ?
OMG! This is awesome. Every time I think you have reached the limit of awesomeness you prove me wrong. Amazing work.
Wow, you did an amazing job! I’ve never seen the show, but this project makes me want to, now.
