Chubby Cat, Bunny, Bear or Pig Amigurumi Pattern
I haven’t had a pattern for a while so here is another multi-purpose pattern that can be used to make several different types of animals in similar styles. They are chubby little short cuties around 2 inches tall and could make fun little playsets for children, xmas tree ornaments, catnip toys or just cute plushies for decoration or gifts. The pattern is worked in a spiral and is fairly simple, well suited to all abilities. Ear and tail patterns from my other multi-purpose patterns could likely be adapted to fit these if you wanted to make a different kind of animal.
The set was made using a 3.5 mm crochet hook and my stash of 100% cotton worsted weight yarn, colours listed below. Relevant tutorials: Embroidering Mouths, Painting Blushy Cheeks.

Thanks for these great patterns! I’m working up my first amigurumi now, just a ball creature, but these look like a great next step. Nearly a ball creature, but not quite … more like cyllinder creatures. Thanks for the great instructions!
Hi, there. For the front legs, do they start off in a circle like the body but with 6 stitches instead of 8? Also, what does “finish off” mean? Thanks!
Yes. It means pull the yarn through and weave in the yarn or use the yarn to sew it to stuff. Finish it off so if the yarn gets a tug it won’t pull your work apart.
[…] A few days ago I made my second crochet amigurumi, this time of one of my favorite animals: cats! I found a pattern that I wanted to try at nerdigurumi.com. The tutorial for the chubby cat can be found here. […]
After my second attempt made a fat cat… then gave it to my sister who had been running about going “kitty!”. My sister is 22. My first attempt ended up skinny and looks more like a pig. I learned to crochet the night before from your video so thank you!
Hello, I wanted to do a mouse but I’m not sure how to do the ears and the tail
For the tail you could do a long chain then SC along it. It would make a long skinny strand. For the ears, mouse ears are basically circles so you could do a circle of 6 SC followed by a round of 6 INCs maybe?
yeah that could work thank you very much 🙂
Hi, I’m a little confused by the 1st round of the back legs. What does
INC, SC X 2, INC work the remainder of this round in the other side of each chain Tutorial X 2, SC X 2, INC; (12) mean?
The words are a link to a tutorial that explains what it means (working in the other side of a chain). Did you watch it?
Hello! I am almost done with your chubby cat pattern and I have one question about the front legs. Are they supposed to be started with a magic ring (or alternative) or with chaining? Thanks!
Either or, it doesn’t matter, they both work.
What size noses do you use? On 6060 etsy, they only have 15mm.
Thanks!
These are 4mm noses from glasseyesonline.
Do you have a website where you normally buy those pink noses?
Thanks!
Yes the 6060 shop on etsy or glaeyesonline. Have a look at my FAQ for more information and links.
hi!! i´m trying to learn how to make amigurumis. thank you so much for the free patterns! i think i´m gonna start with the little fat cat 🙂
Did you sew on beads for the eyes and noses?
No they are safety eyes. Check the FAQ for more information on where to get them.
I just started crocheting again since I was a little girl because I’m quitting smoking. I have been working on this pattern I think I almost got it!
