About Nerdigurumi
My crochet odyssey began in 2008, where my lust for an amigurumi Little Big Planet Sackboy led to my clumsy attempt at learning to crochet. Initial trials were frustrating and unsuccessful but eventually, with help from youtube videos and much trial and error, I figured it out. Unhappy with the pattern I found for the Sackboy, that were either pay for access or didn’t quite look enough like the character. I’ve always been a do-it-myself kind of person and enjoyed crocheting best on the fly vice following a pattern, so I set out to come up with my own patterns and eventually offered them available for free on my website. Since then I have taught workshops at anime conventions and built a library of tutorial videos and patterns for my visitors. Because my own personal interests lay within the spectrum of nerdy things like anime and videogames, most of my patterns have been and will continue to be gaming or nerdery related.
I created and maintain everything on this website, which is a labor of love. You can also find me on Ravelry, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Pinterest.
I’m 15 and I absolutely love everything on this website. I found it while trying to find a sewing pattern for a kazooie plushie but found this instead. I love your work!
Thanks for being generous about your patterns… happy to find you…love from turkey 🙂 🙂
You are adorable. Thank you for your helpful website!
Hey there! I’ve been a fan of your site for some time (and have probably half a dozen of your patterns bookmarked and on my to-do list). I noticed you had a Tsukino-con category and I thought, Hey isn’t that the con that my friends were putting on? And yup, it is. I haven’t been since it was called Kei-Kon, as I’ve moved away from Vic since then. But I bet we know some of the same people. So I just wanted to say hey!
Thank you for helping me get started in 2010 reviving the yarncraft for a new generation. It was your sackboy pattern that helped inspire me to make toys for my two boys. Its been a few years and I am working my way up to other strange oddities for the crochet community.
**hugs** Keep up the good work!
[…] by Emjay Bailey aka Nerdigurumi. As you can see in the photo, my boys loved the Creepers. Check out her site. If you or anyone you know is into video games, she’s probably written a pattern to go along […]
Just stumbled upon your site for the Sackboy, i’ve recently re-picked up crocheting…. and my kids want me to make each of them (3) one of these. So i will be attempting this (with whatever yarn i have at home) and then once i perfect it, will go and get “real yarn” to actually make it. practice makes perfect right!?!?!?!
Thanks for sharing your project… i may end up making a bigger one for myself (once i get the hang of it). 🙂
Love looking at the patterns and the creations.
Wonderful job! 😀
oops.. mistyped some words….. meant to say i have tried your *patterns ….and….angry *birds….. sorry 🙂
Thank you for sharing your patterns. Because of you i got into crocheting and amigurumi. I think they are so cute, my little boys just love them 🙂 Great way of creating something useful and fun. Thanks for getting me into crafts. I have tried your oattetns, very well understandable for a beginner. My goal now is the pig from angry nirds :).
You are awesome!
My son asked me to make him a Sack boy. When I look up the pattern and found your web site, I was thrilled to see how talented you are. For someone who just started a few years ago, you crochet like a professional. Thank you for posting your work. It is beautiful. This should encourage more people to keep up the art of crochet. Thank you.
Muchas gracias por ser tan generosa, me encanta el crochet, y hacerles juguetes a mis nietos.
Un abrazo grande, sigue adelante!!!
Hi,
You rock! I am also an early 30s administrative assistant / mom with 3 boys and a gamer/crocheter! What are the odds. Thank you so much for these patterns! My boys are all under 10, so they love game characters but I can’t always “buy” them plushies. But I can use my yarn!
Thank you again so much!

Woo hoo!!!! Thought I was the only gaming/crocheting mama! I’m a soon to be 40 (ugh!) mother of 5! Been gaming since forever, (grew up with coleco vision, atari, thru ps3). Grandma taught me to crochet when I was 8. Absolutely fell in love with sackboy! Made him in 2 days, woulda been sooner, but had to stop to play the game! Love your patterns, keep ’em coming!
