Lacy Crochet Sock Yarn Cowl

My One Ball Lacy Sock Yarn Cowl

My One Ball Lacy Sock Yarn Cowl

I’ve gone off the deep end… those of you who care only for amigurumi will have to forgive me. My interest in not-amigurumi has increased, while my desire to continue making just amigurumi has dwindled. I have dabbled in practical things that while perhaps cute or quirky, don’t really fit with the theme of my website, and was left to wonder what to do with the patterns I whip up. It would be a shame I think to not post them just for the sake of maintaining an amigurumi theme, and I don’t have the time to build and maintain another site. So here you have it… a lacy Nerdigurumi cowl, based somewhat on the classic shell stitch.

This cowl was made with Kroy Sock yarn, a fingering weight wool and nylon yarn made by Paton’s (Spinrite), in the Clover colourway. I needed only one ball (125 metres) to complete the cowl. The yarn is a teensy bit itchy for my tastes but it’s definitely fine for net to the skin wear, and it’s light and easy to work with. The colourway ended up looking pretty awesome and has an earthy, fall Bohemian vibe to it.

Granny Squares In The Hood

Telephone Poles Want to be Pretty Too!

Telephone Poles Want to be Pretty Too!

I was making basic double crochet granny squares for a baby blanket but eventually my interest petered out and it became one more projects on the stack of partially completed. I didn’t think I’d really ever get around to finishing it so I turned it into a strip of granny squares to wrap around a telephone poll on my street.

Nine squares with 2 rows of single crochet border was perfect and stretched so tightly around the rough, weather worn wood that I am certain that thing isn’t going anywhere without being cut down. I used my usual unmercerized cotton yarn in 4-ply worsted weight, a combination of Lion Cotton, Bernat Handicrafter Cotton and Lily Sugar & Creme, and a 4mm crochet hook. The pattern was a slight modification of the standard double crochet granny square. We’ll see how long it survives before the anti-graffiti yahoos that run around slapping beige paint over ever speck of street art they come across, cut it down.

Cyclops Monster Baby Booties With Pattern

Cyclops Baby Booties

Cyclops Baby Booties

Mark your calendars people, a pattern for something that isn’t a toy! My awesome boss is having a baby and she has a great sense of humour… that combined with my urge to make stuff that’s not as complex or intricate as some of the amis I have made, has sent me off in a baby stuff making bender that’s been somewhat of a delight. So many of the patterns for baby stuff are on the frilly, boring, not as cool as I’d like side of things, so I am once again, blazing my own trails and making things I think up and feel like as I go.

I watched a lot of futurama when I was working on these and I can’t say the lovely Leela wasn’t a teensy bit inspirational.

Grrrrrrrr!

Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1) Amigurumi Playset Pattern

Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1) Amigurumi Pattern

Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1) Amigurumi Pattern

The Adult Swim cartoons from Cartoon Network have always had a special place in my heart. Though Sealab 2021 is my all-time favourite, especially the first two seasons (RIP Captain Murphy) the ATHF are very cool and feature dope ass MC Chris rhymes to boot.

This playset was made for a commission for an amigurumi trade on reddit.com/r/gameswap with an awesome redditor that appears to be a fan of the show. I took the liberty of writing up the pattern as I went since it has been requested in the past and now seemed as good a time as any to deliver. The set is fairly structural in construction and needs plastic canvas reinforcement to ensure the pieces are well shaped and actually look like the characters and not bloated or puffed out when stuffed. Meatwad uses a modified popcorn stitch to create the lumps but apart from that, the pieces are fairly simple to put together. Anyone making it that might run into problems or get confused, please leave a comment for me to respond to.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 – Russian Engineer

Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Russian Engineer

He has amigurumi land mines!

Anyone that knows me personally or is my friend on the Playstation Network is fully aware of the depths of my recent foray into the First Person Shooter excellence that is Battlefield Bad Company 2. The game is amazingly fun and a heck of a challenge, but almost since day one of playing, I was convinced many of the soldier classes needed to be reproduced in Amigurumi form. The Russian engineer is the first I have done but I plan to finish others as time allows. On my to-do list is the American Recon (wookie), Assault (either side) and the Russian Medic.

I’m not posting a pattern for the time being since it is fairly long and I think demand will be very low if at all existent and the notes were terribly scrawled and would be nightmarish to decipher. My Russian engy is complete with amigurumi land mines for taking out enemy vehicles and a Karl Gustav rocket launcher for settling the hashes of pesky tanks and helicopters.

Amigurumi No-Sew Hamburger or Cheeseburger

Posted 03/14/2011
Category Amigurumi Patterns, Projects

Food has been a routine source of inspiration for all sorts of cuteness, from stationary to Amigurumi and I have always loved recreating it in Amigurumi. This pattern was inspired by the hamburger from Doki-Doki Yummy Chums, and is a super cute burger that wants to make friends. The pattern is worked continuously in one piece, and finishes up faster than the separate buns, patties and cheese patterns I found online, most of which were pay anyhow. It also needs no sewing, which saves time and pain in the ass factor, and makes it safer for animals and small children. It is perfect for cat toys, just stuff with catnip, or insert a squeaky thing for dog or baby toys and wait for the drool to fly!

So happy to be so cute!
