Peaches & Creme

Peaches & Creme

Peaches & Creme was a 100% 4 ply worsted weight cotton yarn made by Elmore Pisgah and was manufactured in the USA in North Carolina. It was purchased in Jabuary 2011 by Spinrite, the Canadian company that has gobbled up many yarn manufacturers (Bernat, Payton’s, Phentex) and continues to market brands of yarn it has bought out as competing labels. When it comes to cotton yarn, this has meant essentially identical colour palettes for what are theoretially, completely different brands and lines of yarn. This is of concern because Peaches & Cream yarn offered the most vast selection of colours and was my go-to yarn for projects where the limited BHC and LSC colour options failed me, but is now merely a replica of LSC. Spinrite has limited the colour selection to identically mirror LSC in it’s newly acquired label, shut down manufacturing and move it to Canada, and it has essentially become a different label on the same product (ie: LSC or BHC). Most of the colours in my stash no longer exist.

Though it wasn’t the first n’ Cream cotton yarn to hit the market, it was, in my opinion, the best, that is until Spinrite got their hands on it. Now however, it is merely an exact replica of LSC.

It’s great to hear a good review for Peaches & Creme… I had sworn off the stuff after my very first experience with it. It is sold at Wal-Marts in the States, which is where I picked it up as an afterthought. I attempted to use it multiple times but it was the worst cotton I have ever crocheted with!

It split constantly and had this weird almost waxy feeling/coating that was left on my fingers after putting it down. Weird “yarn” bits flaked off of the main strand as I worked. It drove me NUTS. Maybe the P&C they sell at Wal-Marts is more lower end quality compared to the rest of their product?

Oddly enough, I went back to that Wal-Mart as a quick stop a couple of months later and saw they reset their entire yarn department… with Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream. :-P

If Lily Sugar & Cream offered the same colour selection I’d be all over it :)

I found a few of the christmas colors (dark green, red/white/green ombre) of this brand at my local dollar tree for $1 a ball. i stocked up! it’s not the best cotton to use, but for christmas gift dishcloths, they are fabulous. <3

It’s not the yarn it used to be back when it was actually made by Elmore Pisgah :(
