Amigurumi Crochet Hook Plushie with Pattern

Amigurumi Crochet Hook

And of course he is happy about it.

Minds, prepare to be blown. I’m not entirely sure, but I think this pattern may cause the universe to collapse or create a rip in the space-time continuum… it’s that epic. If I have inadvertently triggered the apocalypse, my apologies for those of you who will surely perish, but clearly it had to be done. I regret nothing.

In it’s very own “Pimp my Ride” putting things in things style splendor, I present to you the amigurumi crochet, crochet hook… an amigurumi plushie of a… crochet hook. I know right? I made him an E hook, which is my preferred amigurumi hook size, and the same size I used to make him even. I’m not too sure what I will do with this little guy, maybe hang him from my rear view mirror or create an altar to the awesomeness of crochet. As with all my patterns, this pattern is a freebie of course. Hookers rejoice!

    Lacy Crochet Sock Yarn Cowl

My One Ball Lacy Sock Yarn Cowl

My One Ball Lacy Sock Yarn Cowl

I’ve gone off the deep end… those of you who care only for amigurumi will have to forgive me. My interest in not-amigurumi has increased, while my desire to continue making just amigurumi has dwindled. I have dabbled in practical things that while perhaps cute or quirky, don’t really fit with the theme of my website, and was left to wonder what to do with the patterns I whip up. It would be a shame I think to not post them just for the sake of maintaining an amigurumi theme, and I don’t have the time to build and maintain another site. So here you have it… a lacy Nerdigurumi cowl, based somewhat on the classic shell stitch.

This cowl was made with Kroy Sock yarn, a fingering weight wool and nylon yarn made by Paton’s (Spinrite), in the Clover colourway. I needed only one ball (125 metres) to complete the cowl. The yarn is a teensy bit itchy for my tastes but it’s definitely fine for net to the skin wear, and it’s light and easy to work with. The colourway ended up looking pretty awesome and has an earthy, fall Bohemian vibe to it.

Angry Birds Red Cardinal and Green Pig Amigrumi Pattern

      Angry Birds Amigurumi Pattern

The pig never saw it coming...

Angry Bird is one of my mom’s favorite games and since I have made her seventy three billion NobyNoby Boys, it seemed a good idea to go with something different for her xmas gift this year, so Angry Birds it was. Things were down to the wire (it’s been nuts this year), so two amis were all I could put together, but I do believe they were a hit.

I realize there are already several patterns for these available online but between the significant portion of them that were pay (tsk tsk!), the simpler than ideal shaping on some (pig is not a perfect ball people… he’s just not!) and my general (read TOTAL) reluctance (read UNWILLINGNESS) for reading or following any pattern (inclusive of my own) I decided to whip mine up on the fly all the while keeping decent enough notes to publish the pattern since it’s been a while and you’ve all been so fabulously patient.

        Amigurumi Minecraft Creeper Pattern

        Amigurumi Minecraft Creeper with Pattern

That's a very nice everything you have there...

I whipped up an amigurumi Minecraft Creeper due in part to the frequency of the request, my kid’s obsession with Minecraft and the general awesomeness of Creepers themselves. Unfortunately the construct wasn’t all that easy to come up with since the character is blockish and pixelated, two things very difficult to pull off with amigurumi worked in the round.

I cringed at the thought of sewing multiple panels together and I am not a fan of the alternating stripes of texture made when squares are worked by turning the work every row, so it took some reworkings and multiple attempts frogged but ultimately the shape came together nicely enough. For colour, I tried a few different ombre yarns and colour switching techniques but they didn’t look right so ultimately I settled on a solid murky green with grey for the feet and face. I have toyed with the idea of fabric paint to create some varied colours but without being able to achieve the pixelated symmetry, I’m not convinced it would look good. Plastic canvas is necessary to reinforce the shape and prevent over-sausagification of the pieces. The finished creeper is around 5 inches tall and works up fairly quickly.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1) Amigurumi Playset Pattern

The Adult Swim cartoons from Cartoon Network have always had a special place in my heart. Though Sealab 2021 is my all-time favourite, especially the first two seasons (RIP Captain Murphy) the ATHF are very cool and feature dope ass MC Chris rhymes to boot.

This playset was made for a commission for an amigurumi trade on reddit.com/r/gameswap with an awesome redditor that appears to be a fan of the show. I took the liberty of writing up the pattern as I went since it has been requested in the past and now seemed as good a time as any to deliver. The set is fairly structural in construction and needs plastic canvas reinforcement to ensure the pieces are well shaped and actually look like the characters and not bloated or puffed out when stuffed. Meatwad uses a modified popcorn stitch to create the lumps but apart from that, the pieces are fairly simple to put together. Anyone making it that might run into problems or get confused, please leave a comment for me to respond to.

Alien Hominid, Chibi Kawaii Cat, Bunny and Bear Amigurumi Patterns

Chibi Kawaii Amigurumi Kitty, Bunny and Bear and Alien Hominid

            The gang is all here.

I was working on a new pattern for a flexible pattern that could be made into various cute, chibi-style animals or humanoid forms, when my husband pointed out how well suited the head shape was to make the pattern into an Alien Hominid. Not content with just a kitty, bear and bunny rabbit, and eager to implement any aspect of nerdery possible, I endeavored to make his dreams come true and set about crafting him his very own Alien Hominid, which he adores.

This pattern is a flexible chibi-style pattern that can be modified to make any cute chibi style animal or humanoid. The oversize head, disproportionate limbs and tiny pot bellied body seal the pattern in the genre of chibi-deformed cuties. It is quite simple and works up fast, creating a finished doll around 4 inches tall in around 1 hour for most experienced crocheters. I have included patterns for bear, cat and rabbit ears and tails, however point out that a cat ear could be stitched to the front of a face to make a bird beak and bunny ears applied to the side of a head upside down make uncanny floppy dog ears. In other words, it is a versatile pattern, so go nuts and let your imagination get the best of you.
