Kawaii Chibi Amigurumi Pattern – Cat, Dog, Bunny, Bear, Duck, Mushroom, Carrot or Strawberry
These work up super quick since they are so small and pretty simple, around 30 minutes from start to finish. They’re a bit over 1 inch in height and would make a great keychains or phone straps. I’ll probably be using this as the base pattern for my amigurumi workshop at Tsukino Con in February since it is shorter and simpler than the peanut animal pattern I was using before and I get many repeat con goers who may appreciate something different to work on.
Pattern Details These were made using a 3.5 mm crochet hook and my stash of 100% cotton worsted weight yarn, colours listed below. They stand around 1 inch tall. The facial details are 6mm safety eyes, fabric paint blush and embroidered mouths. The mushroom’s dots are flet fabric glued to the surface of the amigurumi. Most piece were worked in a spiral but some should be worked in joined rounds, those will be noted in the pattern. The pieces in joined rounds typically need symmetry and will turn out better if worked in joined rounds vice spiral. The pieces calling for spiral will look better that way. While it may seem weird to keep switching from one to the other, it’s recommended the directions are followed for optimal results.

Watch video help a lot, I do not understand patterns… Thank you for wonderful tutorial 🙂
(Excuse bad english, please)
I made the Kitty. In light pink. Now I have an adorable Piggy 😀
Thank you for this super cute tutorials! 😉
If only someone would do a Monkey D. Luffy amigurumi….T__T sigh…
I love your work and patterns. I was wondering if you could do a nice sized Hello Kitty pattern.
Probably not sorry. I’m not a big Sanrio fan and they can be a bit territorial with their brand.
Thank you SO much for the patterns and the video tutorials!
Thank you so much for your very helpful tutorials! 🙂 I’m wondering if you’ll be making one on how to make the ears in the future? 🙂
Ears aren’t very complicated, they are pretty much the same as the start of the ball or a basic strip. I don’t see myself making a video for that sorry.
That’s too bad, because I’d really appreciate it too..
I get the basic head shape, but I mess up around the ears.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of the time and effort you put into helping others learn this craft. You have amazing talent and patience! I saw some pictures of your work floating around on Pinterest a few weeks ago that prompted me to look for more information and so here I am. I’ve been reading and watching all of your tutorials and will be buying some yarn and a needle this evening so I can begin my trek into the world of amigurumi. My daughter is a year and a half old and I know she will grow to love and cherish homemade gifts like these when she gets older 🙂
Why did you do 3 chain stitches in the beginning (at around 4:20) when you wrote to CH 2?
Because I’m an anarchist. It doesn’t really matter.
What did you use to embroider the mouth of the bunny?
Check out the tutorials there is a video tutorial there that explains everything.
Thanks for the tutorial, the body/head turned out nicely overall, but I keep having to leave out a few rows because it wasn’t turning out round, more like a long oval. At row 5. SC x 20; (20), 6 – 8. repeat round 5 for rounds 6 through 8; (20), I only did one 2 rows of 20, leaving out row 7 and 8. Could my stitches be too tight/loose?
Also, in the cat ears, what does “join then CH” mean?
The head pattern for this is oval in shape, it rounds out quite a bit when stuffed, but it’s not meant to be a ball. In any case, omitting or adding rounds of straight crochet (ie: 1 stitch in 1 stitch without increase or decrease) will not overly change things and only make he shape a bit shorter/stubbier. Join then CH means exactly what it says, join your round then chain one. It means you are working in joined rounds vice a spiral. Go to my tutorials page and watch the video for joining.
Thank You!! Now i know how to read the patterns and finally i am able to finish up a project. I still have problems with the stitches count but im planing to get yarn markers to know where im finishing and starting. Thanks
Hi, I watched your tutorial video, but I don’t understand what is happening at 13:46 when you do it double?
The first yarn over slipped off the hook so I had to yarn over again. You can’t see it clearly because the camera was a bit out of focus.
This is my first time making an amigurumi and your patterns and tutorials make it so easy THANK YOU!!!! ^_^ Just a quick question if i were to buy those snap in eyes and noses roughly around what size should i get?
I used 6 mm.
Do you think you can put a tuturial for the angry bird?
Thanks
No, sorry. It’s a fairly simple pattern.
[…] Strawberry – Nerdigurumi’s basic pattern […]
I have been trying to find a amigurumi project for beginners, and this one looks great! Thanks! (:
hi! I’m really lost on the four leaf to for the strawberry. what did you mean by work this sequence in the hole of one stitch? am I supposed to make this pattern 4 times? thanks for your advice!
You are working in 8 SC from the previous round.
In the first stitch from the previous round, do the following sequence: single crochet, 3 double crochet, then another single crochet all in that same first stitch from the previous round. In the second stitch from the previous round, do one slip stitch. Repeat that same sequence three more times to finish the round.
Hi, thank you for all your great tutorials and patterns. I can’t seem to get the rabbit ears nice and slim like yours, is there a special technique? Mine comes out like wide floppy dog ears
=(
Maybe try a smaller hook?
I used a 3.75mm hook, but I will try the 3.5mm hook like your pattern suggests and see if it comes out better. Thanks!
wow, nevermind. I just saw your response from 6/28, i will try to do it and see. Thanks again!
🙂
Hi Emjay,
I just came across your site as a beginner and just wanted to thank you!! I love it and your tutorial for the body was great. I was wondering if you could explain how to do the ears for the bunny, or carrot top. I’ve finished the body, but I’m confused about how to add ears or other limbs to the body. Would you mind explaining a little or a tutorial, if possible? Thanks again for your help! 🙂
The written directions differ from the video. For instance, on the main body, the written instructions say to start with CH2 rather than CH3 in the video.
With that in mind, would we use CH3 for the ears and such if we used CH3 for the body? Does it matter?
It doesn’t really matter either way, which is probably why it varied 😀 The two or three CH’s will be inside the plushie and not visible. They sort of act like a flap that covers any hint of a starting hole you might have, from the inside.
CAN YOU YOU DO A VIDEO OF HOW CAN YOU PUT THE SEEDS OF THE STRAWBERRY THE MOUTH AND EVEN THE CHEEKS~!!!! ^______^ <3
Blush Cheeks and mouth embroidery already have tutorials. The seeds were essentially embroidered the same as the mouth only I tied a knot instead of making a stitch.
I just finished my first crochet project – ever! Lovely easy, now Ijustbelieve that I’ll need practice.
Though my white cate ended up looking much more like a polar-bear… How on earth do you do those ear?!?
But still great tut, thank you!
Your first project is bound to have looser stitches and a bit of inconsistency in shaping. Don’t worry it’s normal, you are learning 😀
A huge thank you for all your great patterns and tutorials from a fellow BC’er! I’m having so much fun making all these super kawaii amigurumi. 🙂
I don’t know if I’m just blind, but is there a tutorial on how to attach the ears/limbs/etc? Or is it just as easy as threading the tail through a needle and sewing them on?
Thanks again, you’re awesome!
I pin limbs and ears etc in place with short head pins so they don’t budge while I am sewing them on, use a tapestry needle and stitch into the fabric by going under one loop of a stitch vice stitching through the fabric and into the stuffing, which can sometimes get pulled through if you sew them on that way. Using the long tail is the easiest way I found. Good luck!
oh…I got it already. Haha….never mind.
I don’t really understand step 6 for the main head/body. Can you explain for me clearer? thanks~^^
Just want to say how Great your projects are and I did the Piggy and everyone liked it.. I am working on the Angry bird cardinal but I had a question on the tail… (beginner) tail looks good just my hole is large like a fingertip size….is that the way it was suppose to come out? Also any tips on attaching appendages like the tail and the tummy… that might be helpful. thanks…
ps …your a great teacher and very creative!!!
bj
Thanks very much. If you go back to the pattern and check the comments you’ll see that has been addressed. In short “If there’s a big open hole that is visible you can put a piece of felt or run a yarn needle with black yarn under it a few times when it is stitched on the bird to make it look filled in.”
This is so cute~ I was wondering about the carrot and strawberry. Did you just roll it between your hands to make it more ovaly or did you just added a row on the SC around?
I squished them around a bit to make the shape more pronounced but you could definitely add more rounds to make them more pronounced.
OMG all your crochet patterns are super cute!
Would you possibly be able to do a Cloud (Final Fantasy) pattern?
Thanks so much! <3
Maybe!
Those are adorable!
This pat Friday, I started my first amigurumi project. I’m making a chibi cat. I didn’t follow a pattern, but I’m pleased with how it’s turing out. I didn’t purchase the eyes, but crocheted them and attached them to the chibi cat. It’s almost done. 🙂
Today, I’m doing some volunteer work at my daughters school. I believe I’ll bring along my crochet hooks (and yarn) and make a few of these. Thanks for sharing!
