I started working on this prototype pattern in hopes of finding a way to make the PS3 controller a bit more comfortable to clutch for hours on end. It’s a good start, though I did mess up the mirroring of the bootie part so that is why it’s taller on one side than the other. I will be fleshing it out a bit more, sorting out some bits and posting a finished pattern when I am satisfied that it looks good and is all evened out.

In terms of functionality, it’s more comfy than the naked controller, you can hold it in a sort of more relaxed way, but the cone parts slip around more than I’d like them to, so I think I’ll add some little teeny dabs of silicone, once cured they’ll be like grippy little nubs on the inside to give traction and keep things in place (think like the little traction bits they have on the bottom of some slippers/socks). It’s totally removable

In other news… I am off to go fetch the windex and cotton swabs to clean our game controllers. May these photos serve as a sobering reminder of the consequences of eating cheetos whilst going on videogame benders.

I made this little guy for the girl who has been teaching a manga drawing class at the local Comic Book store for the last year or so and has been awesome to my kid. She’s passed on some really cool drawing tips, always been friendly and patient with the kids, and that is super duper in my books. She’s going on to another job and won’t be there anymore so we wanted to do something sweet for her.

It was made with half strands of yarn and a 2mm crochet hook. The bottom is worked to be actually flat. I didn’t take good notes as I made it and just winged it, but I put up the pattern as best I recall and have sussed out from looking at the thing. If this is done with a bigger hook and full strands of yarn, it’ll just be bigger, like little pin cushion sized.

Chiyo-Chichi, the short tempered cat father of Chiyo-Chan makes, no sense and this is perhaps why I love him so. Rising from the fevered dreams of Osaka and Sakakke, he now takes Amigurumi crochet form in this newest and very easy pattern of mine.

In Amigurumi form he was rather simple to suss out, and though the embroidery on his face didn’t turn out quite as I had hoped, and his ears aren’t as straight as I might have liked, he is dreamy.

I’ve put together a couple of quick and dirty videos on how to do the slip stitch details addons for Mr. Bubbles’ dive suit cuffs, drill etc because I found it really difficult to explain and after a few emails I received, it became apparent it was really difficult to comprehend as well.

The Bouncer is the iconic image of Bioshock, the first one anyhow… with his glowing portholes, Little Sister in tow and posture no man could envy, a cuddly version was an absolute necessity. This has been my most ambitious and maddening pattern design so far because of all of the pieces and details involved. I started a long time ago and had originally hoped to have this out before the release of Bioshock 2, but had to redesign so many parts and I couldn’t crochet fast enough to get it together in time, so here he is a few days behind schedule in all of his Amigurumi glory… Mr. Bubbles is all yarn save for 8 buttons (no wire reinforcements and yes he can stand up on his own!) It’s been a while since the last update but I have a few projects on the go so please be patient. I’ve got my favorite character from Azumanga Daioh (98% done, just need to embroider the mouth), the Katamari pattern (60% done, must add more nubbies!) and also, in honor of the soon to be released Bioshock 2, the coolest thing I have yet to make (surprise! 35% complete).

Tsukino Con is fast approaching and I am blowing the dust off my sewing machine for the marathon of sewing I have ahead of me.

In the meantime, gaze at my lack of updates in anticipation for the awesomeness to come.
