A Goomba-gurumi Pattern

Posted 12/27/2009
Category Amigurumi Patterns - Videogames

This pattern is a Nerdigurumi original, free for non-commercial use. The Goomba character belongs to Nintendo (obviously) and I make no claim to it’s awesomeness, although I did convert it’s image to the marvelous crochet goodness you see before you.

This particular fellow is stuffed with catnip and will likely suffer the same fate as the real Goombas did, although at the hands of a hepped up kitty cat, versus a hepped up Italian plumber.

Goomba is crocheted in the round, through both loops (except for the invisible decreases) without joining.  This little guy was made with medium worsted weight cotton yarn (Bernat Handicrafter and Lily Sugar & Cream), however any yarn (worsted weight preferably) will do.  I used a 3.75 mm hook for looser work since it’s a catnip toy, but 3.5mm is probably ideal.

4 – 8. repeat row 3 for rows 4 to 8 (10) (stuff tip of foot only lightly)
9. SC then INVDEC; repeat (7)
Finish off and leave a long tail

Stuff the stump body then stitch open end to the bottom of the head.  Use tail end of yarn from feet to stitch them to the bottom of the stump body.  Run yarn through to the top of the head to reinforce Goomba and give it that squished mushroomy look he is so well known for.  Embroider face and add eyes with felt or some other type of non fraying fabric.

What are the eyes made of? Are they felt or crochet? If crochet what’s the pattern for the eyes and teeth? Lastly did you embroider the mouth? Thank you so much this pattern is crazy AMAZING!!!!

Hi there! I was actually trying to make a Goombella amigurumi, after about 4 attempts having trouble getting the head right, I opted to use a pattern (this one here) and I have to say this pattern is amazing! Really easy to follow and is the very first pattern I’ve used, definitely making a Professor Frankly after I finish Goombella 😉

        14 – 16. repeat row 13 (40)

It means for rounds 14 through 16 repeat round 13. It’s a shorter way than writing out:

        14. repeat round 13
        15. repeat round 13
        16. repeat round 13

        But means the same thing.

For the catnip, did you enclose it in a bag before stuffing or is it loose?

      Thanks!!

What I do to make it especially catnippy is when the amigurumi is unstuffed, I sprinkle in around 2 tablespoons of catnip and shake it so that the catnip sort of sticks to the entire interior of the amigurumi, like along the walls of the fabric. Then I take the polyfill I will stuff it with and pull it apart, sprinkle in catnip then mush it back together and stuff it in. I do that so it is really infused. I use probably around 5 tablespoons in total and cats usually go nuts for it.

I just found this page and I have a feeling I'm going to love it! I am sooo making a Goomba, not only for myself but as birthday pressies for my brothers as well (we actually burned out an old TV playing NES for hours and hours on end back in the days :)).

      Thank you!
