Amigurumi Kirby with Pattern and Bonus Smash Brothers hats!

Kirby Amigurumi Pattern

My Kirby pattern has been a long time coming, mainly because I got too ambitious with Super Smash Brothers versions to finish and post it. Initially, in honour of the recent release of Kirby’s epic yarn, the project was going to include patterns for 10 or so Kirby hats, so that he could be more epic and morph into his various SSB versions and be Link Kirby, Mario Kirby, Wario Kirby, you get the idea.

As with most things I do though, I got distracted and started working on other stuff and finished up the Mario and Peach hats only, so these will have to do for now. I might make more later, but if my fabulous readers make a Kirby and decide to make him a SSMB hat, email me photos and the pattern if you are kind enough to share and I will post it with credit. As with all my patterns, Kirby is free.

Beginner Amigurumi Peanut Animal Pattern Tutorial with Videos

Nerdigurumi Peanut Tutorial Bear

Nerdigurumi Peanut Tutorial Bear

This pattern was the basis for the 2010 Amigurumi Workshops I did at Anime Evolution and Tsukino Con and is also the mascot for my website. It’s a fairly small and simple no-sew (for the body, the ears are sew on) pattern great for beginners that has step by step videos to help you on your way.

The videos were made to be shown at an in-person panel so they make references to “your kit” and things of that nature, but the techniques displayed remain relevant. There are different optional ears so you can make your peanut a cat, bear, dog or bunny or improvise things like hairdos or antennae to make any sort of weirdo or creature you like!

Legend of Zelda – Toon Link Play Set with Pattern

Legend of Zelda - Toon Link Amigurumi

He has a sword and shield

Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda : the Wind Waker is probably my favorite of the Zelda games. It’s a beautiful game with a great story, good music and a funny, weird, cute and fabulous bunch of characters. Toon Link is really expressive, cute but not too cute, child like and innocent but not over the top. I love it, but more importantly this game my kid has loved and played since she was 4, it’s one of her favorite childhood videogames and for that it has a special place in my heart and has cemented the Gamecube as a staple of our household. Toon Link has been the focus of several DS games, but I really hope Nintendo brings him out of console retirement soon.

This pattern has been a long time in the making and I dare say rivals my Bouncer in terms of intricate pieces and annoying details. If I had lots of spare time or was in prison or some such place, I’d go for different coloured Four Swords Links and add more accessories and enemies and of course Zelda, but for now this set is it. Some parts and details are optional and the accessories can be left out if you want to cut corners. I share the pattern for the whole thing, but be warned, it’s really long and may have some parts seeming complicated or confusing.

A Link was requested several times in the videogame thread so for those who asked, I am pleased to say, here you go 🙂 If you tackle it and have questions or notice mistakes, let me know but if you could please use the comments, rather than contact me via email, other people who may experience similar head scratching will see your question and my answer, so it’s win-win.

Amigurumi Crochet Domo-Kun with Pattern

Amigurumi Domo-Kun

Domo looks menacing but is actually very polite and shy.

Domo-kun, a strange yet very polite creature that hatched from an egg, likes to rock, watch tv, hang out with an old rabbit dude and pass gas when nervous, is here for you in Amigurumi form. This Domo is a good medium size, finishes up to around 10 inches tall. Arms should be wired and it’s not a bad idea to weight his feet and bottom for stability. Black safety eyes or buttons are needed for the eyes. I used 8mm which I think were actually a bit on the small side.

I used felt to make the mouth panel because a crochet panel added too much thickness (I did try it and it looked wrong), and to switch colors in the actual pattern and work in the red as I went made a crooked mouth that slanted to the right because of the way the stitches are offset each from the previous row just a bit. I surface crocheted around the mouth to make it look a bit recessed and finish it off. The pattern, as with all of my patterns, is free.

Keroro Gunso (Sgt Frog) Amigurumi with Pattern

Keroro Gunso - Sgt Frog

Gunso San

Keroro Gunso is easily my favorite anime character; cute, wildly screwy, moody, kind of a little creep, has ambitions to take over the world and appreciates a good WcDonald’s burger. An alien invader from the planet Keron, he and his troop of subordinates are here to take over or destroy Pekopon (earth), though he wouldn’t mind acquiring a few more Gundam models along the way. It was first a manga and has since been made into an anime and move. If you haven’t seen the anime yet, I suggest you check it out if you enjoy comedies and wacky ensemble shows.

Sassy pose

Gunso San is made with wired arms and legs that are jointed using 8mm safety eyes, so he is very poseable. The safety eye joint give something solid to anchor the wiring to as well so he is more solid than wired limbs that aren’t rooted into the body. He is all amigurumi crochet other than the felt star on his tummy which turned out kind of terrible and sadly misshapen. The main body parts are done is medium worsted weight cotton yarn using a 3.5mm crochet hook. The smaller detail parts like his eyes mouth and tummy were all made with half strands of the same yarn with a 2.75mm hook, but could be done in crochet thread or light yarn or felt even.

Little Big Planet Sackboy – with Pattern

Little Big Planet for PS3

Game Cover

Little Big Planet is a great game that lets creativity drive a unique gameplay experience where anyone can make their own levels, their own content and give items they have crafted as prizes. The main character, much like many aspects of the game itself, is in many ways a blank canvas that can be decorated and manipulated in countless ways, yet even in his plainest most basic form, Sackboy is perfection. A floppy little cutie, clearly knitted, and yet screaming to be recreated in crochet, he is, the reason I pursued learning how to make amigurumi… I wanted a sackboy of my very own.

Little Big Planet Amigurumi Sackboy

Amigurumi Sackboy

I’ve made him before, but this pattern is a refined version, a bit smaller than the previous, a bit more accurate to the character, and significantly less cretinous. The shaping is achieved with stitches increasing and decreasing versus strategic stuffing and sewing. I’ve tried a jointed version but couldn’t get the limbs to sit right (hanging limply downward), so his are stitched in place. Like in the videogame, you can make him any color, change his eyes, clothes, adorn him with accessories and tailor him however your imagination motivates you. Click the link after the gallery to get the free pattern.
