Keroro Gunso (Sgt Frog) Amigurumi with Pattern

Posted 04/04/2010
Category Amigurumi Patterns - Anime

Keroro Gunso - Sgt Frog

Gunso San

Keroro Gunso is easily my favorite anime character; cute, wildly screwy, moody, kind of a little creep, has ambitions to take over the world and appreciates a good WcDonald’s burger. An alien invader from the planet Keron, he and his troop of subordinates are here to take over or destroy Pekopon (earth), though he wouldn’t mind acquiring a few more Gundam models along the way. It was first a manga and has since been made into an anime and move. If you haven’t seen the anime yet, I suggest you check it out if you enjoy comedies and wacky ensemble shows.

Keroro Gunso - Sgt Frog Sassy Pose

Sassy pose

Gunso San is made with wired arms and legs that are jointed using 8mm safety eyes, so he is very poseable. The safety eye joint give something solid to anchor the wiring to as well so he is more solid than wired limbs that aren’t rooted into the body. He is all amigurumi crochet other than the felt star on his tummy which turned out kind of terrible and sadly misshapen. The main body parts are done is medium worsted weight cotton yarn using a 3.5mm crochet hook. The smaller detail parts like his eyes mouth and tummy were all made with half strands of the same yarn with a 2.75mm hook, but could be done in crochet thread or light yarn or felt even.

I have been looking for something anime related for a while now. When I saw this I just about died. Thank you so much for making this pattern!

Thanks for the Pattern! I was going to make the Sargent, but I ran out of green yarn. So I used your pattern to make tamama. Still needs his arms and patches and then I need to make him a tail. I think I’ll try crocheting the blue middle of the tail and sew white felt on the sides. I’m also trying to make sargents hat for my son. I tried to do it on my own but I think I’ll have to look for an ear flap hat pattern done in single crochet.

        Follow the instructions.

INC then SC then INC then SC then INC then SC then INC then SC x 17 (28)

1 INC followed by 1 SC, repeat that sequence 2 more times, INC then SC 17 times in a row.

But if I do so, I’ll have way more than 28 as stitch count?
To get from 24 to 28 in one round I should do:
sc sc sc sc sc inc sc sc sc sc sc inc sc sc sc sc sc inc sc sc sc sc sc inc

            No, the instructions say:

INC then SC (3 stitches total) then INC then SC (add 3 more for 6) then INC then SC (add 3 more for 9) then INC (add 2 more stitches here for 11) then SC x 17 (then add 17 single crochets to it for a total off… wait for it…) (28)

If you do it the way you wrote, the stitch count will be right but he won’t have a butt that sticks out like the character does. It’s written how it is to achieve shaping, which IMO, is paramount.

1 INC followed by 1 SC, repeat that sequence 2 more times, INC then SC 17 times in a row.

I do have a question about the arms/legs. I’ve got the “6 sc in 2nd ch…” but what I don’t understand is how I repeat that. Where exactly am I supposed to start after I do step 1??

      Many thanks!

It meant repeat 6 SC per round. I have edited it for clarity.

I’m currently making a yellow one so he can be Kururu for an xmas gift. It’s working up fine and the stitch count is right but it just seems so small. Is his little arm supposed to be as long as my pinkie finger?

      THIS. IS. AMAZING.
I just made a paper mache head for my halloween costume this year & I’ve been looking up every other Keroro project I could work on. I wanted to start crocheting so I could make Sackboys (which your tutorials of are also fantastic), but this is even more exciting!! I can’t even believe you have this on here. THANK YOU!

Can you please explain in detail how you made the mouth (the red section) and the red star on his hat?

The red star on his hat was embroidered on and the mouth could be done in either a piece of felt fabric glued or stitched in place. How to make the mouth is explained at the end of the chin detail instructions. If it is confusing or seems too complicated, try the felt ๐Ÿ˜€

      Hello,
I just finished my keroro today and i love it! Thanks so much for the pattern!

I was wondering if you can also teach us how to modify the pattern for the other squad members.. such as kululu who has a different head piece and tamama chan’s face.

      thanks!

You can take the basic hat piece and modify it for the other characters. Because they all have the same basic shapes, you can improvise the rest with some basic changes or add ons.

Hi there, I really appreciate this absolutely adorable pattern! My boyfriend loves Sgt. Frog and I was going to make this for him as a christmas present n.n I’m still kind of new to crocheting, and I’m a bit confused on rnd 3 of the head. It says it ends in 18 stitches, if I’m correct, and you’re saying to do a sc and inc in each stitch around, so basically 3 sc in every stitch? I’m wondering if that’s right or not. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

No sorry it’s do an SC in the first stitch, then an increase in the next, then repeat that sequence five more times.

ok i’m trying to make a larger version of this and i’m stuck on the body part now i was easily able to make the head larger (i saw a post you left in the kirby pattern, beautiful design btw) and when i start making the body to make him bigger instead of ending on 24 stitches on row 4 i keep going till 42 stitches my problem comes from rows 6,7,8. i’ll use row 6 as an example, do i do one row of 28 stictch total and then a second of 56 stitches total? i’m totally lost and would love some help i can’t leave sgt unfinished and he’s the perfect size as compared to the anime (i used an F hook) many thanks

Use the same ratio as you used for the head, so if for example, every round was doubled and spread across three rounds, do the same with the body and other parts. If you need more information, please let me know how many rounds you did for the head.

If you give more detail into what difficulty you are encountering or what the problem is, I may be able to help but there isn’t much I can do otherwise. Pictures help too.
