Amigurumi Kirby with Pattern and Bonus Smash Brothers hats!
My Kirby pattern has been a long time coming, mainly because I got too ambitious with Super Smash Brothers versions to finish and post it. Initially, in honour of the recent release of Kirby’s epic yarn, the project was going to include patterns for 10 or so Kirby hats, so that he could be more epic and morph into his various SSB versions and be Link Kirby, Mario Kirby, Wario Kirby, you get the idea.
As with most things I do though, I got distracted and started working on other stuff and finished up the Mario and Peach hats only, so these will have to do for now. I might make more later, but if my fabulous readers make a Kirby and decide to make him a SSMB hat, email me photos and the pattern if you are kind enough to share and I will post it with credit. As with all my patterns, Kirby is free.
Kirby was made with a 3.5mm hook going through both loops. The eyes and mouth are painted wool felt glued on and the blush is a light dusting of paint. Embroidery or other techniques would get the job done just fine as well.

Thank you for the pattern for Kirby. I am totally Nintendo naive, but my daughter sent me the link and her boyfriend will have Kirby in his stocking. I think you crocheted an opening for his mouth, didn’t you? It took me a while, but I figured that out. The hat is far beyond cute. Thank you for the fun I had crocheting and for James’ anticipated delight on Christmas morning.
Thanks for the great pattern very easy to follow. My daughter loves it, had to orient the flipper forward though for playability issues I posted the the piece on my deviant gallery crediting you.
I made this a year ago and it came out great! The recipient loves it. I am making it again, and the Mod Pink yarn is discontinued. Thank you for a great pattern!
Do you use a yarn that recommends 3.5 (your hook’s size) or a bigger one ? Because I read on some blogs that for amigurumi, it’s better to use a hook whose size is smaller than what is recommended…
Another question : when you say “repeat x times”, does that include the line where it is written in the “x times” or is it x times + 1 (the line) ?
Thanks for your awesome patterns by the way. They are really pretty 🙂
No, it’s after you’ve done it once, repeat it this many more times.
I use worsted weight yarn with a 3.5mm hook which is very undersized for worsted weight yarn making very tight stitches.

Thank you so much for the pattern. I’m making one for my brother and another one for my unborn child =)
You did such an amazing job with the details. I bought both acrylic and wool felt to attempt to do the eyes and mouth. Can you give advice as to cutting the felt without it looking so… as bad as I did it? Lol
Cut carefully and wool felt holds together better than acrylic but all felt, looks fuzzy. 🙁

Hello !
Thanks for your pattern but I have a problem with the arm :

3. SC, INC, SC; repeat twice; (12)
It should be repeat three, no ? I don’t undestand.
Thanks !

I’m a beginner and want to know what the difference between double crochet and increase. Thanks x
A double crochet is a different kind of stitch that is the height of two regular single crochets, hence the term “double”. An increase is two single crochet stitches in one stitch from the previous round.
For those wondering, I had a ball of yarn I inherited – not sure how much of it was used before I started. I got three kirby bodies and respective fins out of it. Which is awesome, as I havnt kept one of my own amigurumi yet, and I wanted a kirby – but know two others who’d like one.

Hey,
This is my first attempt at crocheting/amigurumi and this pattern was really easy to follow and I almost got a finished Kirby! Yay!
Anyway I was wondering.. probably stupid question but do you just sew the limbs on with a needle and thread? The tail is just weaving in and cut off once secure (seen that part somewhere)
Use the yarn tail to sew on limbs it will be more secure.
Not sure if this would be considered reviving a post (sorry) But what kind of yarn did you use? I noticed you said the color, but what type is it? Sorry if I’m overlooking something, maybe you say it somewhere, but I’m just learning. 😀
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton, Lily Sugar and Cream and Peaches and Cream yarn. They’re all unmercerized kitchen cotton yarns.
I just made this for a friend and it came out so nice! (Except that I don’t have the materials for its face at the moment) Thanks so much for the pattern 🙂
I haven’t read the comments so I don’t know if anybody has mentioned this, but I’m going through the pattern right now making one of my sons a Kirby for Christmas and on row 16 there is a mistake. It says to do “SC x 6, INVDEC, SC x 6; repeat twice.” It should actually be 3 times. That’s on the body/head area.
No, the way the instructions are is:
SC x 6, INVDEC, SC x 6; < --- do this then --> repeat twice
For a total of 3 times.
Oh I see what you are saying. The first time it’s states counts as the first time then repeat twice and that equals three. Okay. I did it right I just didn’t understand the wording. Thanks.

hi! can you have a close up on the eyes and mouth? or could you give a tutorial on them?
It’s cut out felt with a bit of painting on it. The tutorial for painting on blush cheeks is basically the same technique, only do it on felt, not on the fabric of the amigurumi. You glue it on to the amigurumi with fabric glue.
Tutorial for painting blush on cheeks? Do you have a link for that? Thanks!

I jus made the flipper and I thing something must be gone wrong, because it doesn’t form a pocket so you can stuff it, its rather flat, because there is no decrease in the flipper pattern so i guess..
There isn’t supposed to be a decrease. It should be like a wide ice cream cone, you stuff it and pin it on. It is worked in the round and should not be flat.
do you have a picture of the flipper before you pin it on?
No.
so the eyes and mouth are paper, right? U draw it and stick in on,, right?
No they are felt.

About how much yarn did this take?
Not much, a lot less than a ball of each.
Hi there,
I want to make Kirby but I’m wondering what you are using for the eyes and mouth. Is that just felt? Because it lookes very thin. You’ve also painted on it, is that correct? And did you glue it on? Because i don’t see any thread holding it.
Could you explain it to me because the detailing looks great!! 🙂
Thanks so much, Yessica
It is felt but it isn’t acrylic felt like you buy at the craft store, it is a real wool felt that is made much thinner. I bought it online but you can also buy from some local yarn stores. That said, slightly thicker acrylic flt works fine too. I glued it on to the surface of the amigurumi with fabric glue once the features were painted on. Any acrylic paint or fabric paint will work to paint on felt.
This is so vute i could just die 🙂
que es carolina del sur????….. me confundoooo!!! @.@
Sorry I don’t understand what you are asking. Please try asking in English.
She is asking “What is Carolina from the south?…She is confused!” I don’t know what she is talking about so I’m just clueless as to what exactly she is talking about.
On another note, thank you for sharing such a wonderful pattern! I made mine in one night and already have the kids fighting over it. 🙂
Oh wait…I think she is asking what is “sc”…which is single crochet! LOL
Oh my, that’s… not good.
I finished my kirby with a mario hat from your pattern. He’s so cute 😛
Here is my creation: http://femjo.deviantart.com/#/d5f7t6z
I made kirby white and grey like one of the versions from ssbb 😛
How big does he end up?
8 inches I think?
Is there a way to make it any bigger?
Yes please review all of the comments. This question has been asked and answered for this pattern.
I made Kirby and Prince Fluff with this pattern! I would love to send a pic. 😉
When attaching the arms and feet, after sewing it, what do u do with the tail? Do you just cut it off or secure it in some way? 🙂
Weave in then snip off once secured.
For the jewel on the crown, is that felt or a glob of fabric paint?
I used felt although fabric paint could work well too.
How did u get the blush color on the cheeks?
Here is a tutorial.
im so confused on row 6 for mario hat… i dont see how it works, help please, if not its cool… >_<
6. SC then INC (repeat 4 times for a total of 15 stitches); SC, SC, INC, SC, SC (repeat 3 times for a total of 24 stitches); (39)
Do this: Single crochet in one stitch from the previous round, then increase in the next stitch from the previous round. Do it again 4 times. This makes a total of 15 stitches spread over 10 stitches from the previous round. Those instructions were for the first half of the round, for the next half do this, single crochet in one stitch from the previous round, single crochet in the next stitch from the previous round, increase in the next stitch from the previous round, single crochet in the next stitch from the previous round and single crochet in the next stitch from the previous round. Now repeat that sequence (the instructions for the second half of the round) 3 more times for a total of 24 stitches spread out over 20 stitches from the previous round.
He’s awesome! Would you be able to make the Yoshi hat? I love this, and it’s great that you made this pattern available. Thanks 🙂
Not sure I would get around to it but thank you.
Why do u always have great patterns 😀 thinking of making this for my friend !!
Thanks so much 🙂 I thought so but I didn’t want to assume and come out with a lopsided Kirby. Much obliged. 🙂
Do we join the rounds?
Spiral is recommended for this pattern. I usually only specify joined rounds if the pattern has striping or specifid requirements for symmetry, so if it doesn’t say work in joined rounds and have join then CH 1 at the end of each round, it’s safe to assume you are working in a spiral 🙂
