Cyclops Monster Baby Booties With Pattern
I watched a lot of futurama when I was working on these and I can’t say the lovely Leela wasn’t a teensy bit inspirational.
Pattern Details These were made using a 3.75 mm crochet hook and my stash of 100% cotton worsted weight yarn, colours listed below. They fit a little newborn to 6 months old baby. The entire thing is worked in joined rounds in order to maintain symmetry. Working in a spiral is not recommended.
Terminology
SC = Single Crochet
SL ST = Slip Stitch
ST = Stitch
SK = Skip
INVDEC = Invisible Decrease (single crochet)
INC = Increase (single crochet)
HDC = Half Double Crochet
HDC INC = 2 HDC in 1 ST from the previous round
DC = Double Crochet
repeat x # = do the sequence once then repeat it appropriate # of times
Colours Used
Bootie (make 2)

CH 13
CH after a join does not count as a stitch. Always work the first stitch of a round in the same stitch you joined the previous round in.
1. HDC INC in 2nd CH from hook, HDC x 10, do 4 HDC in the next CH (this functions as a U-turn), working on the other side of your CH, HDC x 10, HDC INC; join then CH 2 (28)
2. HDC INC x 2, HDC x 10, HDC INC x 4, HDC x 10, HDC INC x 2; join then CH 1 (36)

4. SC, INC x 2, SC, INC, HDC x 30, INC, SC, INC x 2, SC ; join then CH 2 (switch to white then back to green wherever you want the mouth to be. I did my mouth starting at the 12th and ending at the 18th stitch over the span of 2 rounds.) (46)
5. HDC 46; join then CH 2 (46)
6. HDC x 46; join then CH 2 (46)
7. HDC x 46; join then CH 1 (46)
8. SC x 12, INVDEC, SC, INVDEC, SC, INVDEC, SC; INVDEC, INVDEC, SC, INVDEC, SC, INVDEC, SC, INVDEC, SC x 12; join then CH 1 (38)

Is this pattern available in larger sizes for slippers?? They would be great for kids of all ages and their parents!!!
No sorry, I haven’t made various sizes.
Okay, I am new a t crochet so i just have a couple of questions that will probably sound dumb to the seasoned veterans. When it says INC do I increase by putting the same stitch in the same hole? Also is says HDC x 8, HDC X 2, HDC INC
would someone please braek that down for me?
HDC in the next 8 stitches, then HDC twice in the next stitch then HDC INC? Does that mean to HDC in the next stitch twice?
Please help! I LOVE this pattern.
Thank you so much!
An increase is 2 stitches in the same stitch from the previous round.
HDC x 8 (do 8 Half double crochets, 1 stitch in each stitch from the previous round), HDC X 2 (do 2 Half double crochets, 1 stitch in each stitch from the previous round), HDC INC (do 2 Half Double Crochets in 1 stitch from the previous round)
SO SO SO cute! Can’t wait to make these for my little one on the way! Thx!
These are adorable, I know what I’m making for my new babies toes!! Thank you 🙂
This seems silly, but I need to know which end is which so I can put the mouth in the right spot!!
I’ve used a 3mm hook and it’s looking fine so far but getting to the 12th stitch is not very far along – so if I start the mouth there it will be on the side!!
So, is the tip of the booty opposite the joins, or are the joins at the tip of the booty??
I have confused myself lol
The joins are at the back or heel of the boot.
I am having the same problem with placement of the mouth. After reading all the comments and Emjay’s frustration with questions, I have just decided to put my mouth stitches at 20 – 26, which should work out around the front of the toe. I had to make the whole bootie to see how the shaping would work out to determine my solution. Too bad I didn’t check this site first.
I would add my thanks for such a cute, easy and free pattern.
Thanks for the great inspiration and pattern for the booties. I really liked the eye & teeth details! So clever. Thanks for sharing.
Hey,
I was trying to make your booties for my sisters baby and have been
running into some problems. The number of stitches aren’t adding up for the bootie. In round one if you follow the pattern you get 28 total stitches instead of 26, which means you can’t do round 2 because it only calls for 26. Initially what I did was skip the 2 HDC INC from round 1 to make it 26. Doing that and following the directions gets me to 34. However in the next round if you follow the patten you get a total of 40 stitches instead of 38. If you try to get to round 4 you need a total of 42 stitches to make it to 46. Am I doing something completely wrong? I really love how these booties look and want to make them correctly.
Thanks for your post.
Stitch count is not a big deal. Seriously. Of course you can do round 2 even though it doesn’t add up to 28, you could just add two stitches, or remove two from round 1. There is a whole world of possibilities out there. Almost every pattern I post has some errors in stitch counts, due partially to my own lack of attention to calculating stitch count. In short, I don’t have a hobby so I can do math, so sometimes I do it poorly, and shamelessly so.
The stitch count issues were fixed I think, but essentially in each round that I verified the instructions were good but the tally was incorrect. If you came up with another way about it and the booties look good then keep going and don’t worry about it, and welcome to the school of wingin’ it my friend.
Correct is really all in how the thing you are making looks, if you are happy with it, then it’s correct 😀
These are so fantastic! I made them for a friend’s baby shower and she absolutely loved them. I can’t wait to see them in use.
OMG /dies
I’m going to have to have another baby just so that he/she can wear those booties! 😀
So cute, Can you please describe a little further how the mouth is created? Thank u!
The white is switching from green to white yarn and I outlined every stitch in black embroidery thread so that every stitch looked like a tooth.
Squeeeee!!! So cool! Love them 🙂 I also love that they’re unisex so I can make them now for future babies yay!
Hey!
I love these booties – so cute! I’ve been having a bit of trouble with the number of stitches in each round though – for example, row 1 has 28 stitches but row 2 (HDC INC x 2, HDC x 9, HDC INC x 4, HDC x 9, HDC INC x 2) only allows for 26. I’d love to make these booties perfectly for my friend who’s expecting twins – am I missing something? (This is my first foray into this kind of crocheting so I’d appreciate any help!) Thank you!
The stitch count for the first round is wrong, it’s actually 26 stitches in total.
Thank you, Emjay! 🙂
Eighth grandchild is on the way and I can’t wait to make these incredibly cute booties!
These are super awesome and I love them. I only wish my daughter was still little enough for them… or maybe she is 😀
I’ve followed you for a little while now and love your stuff, but these booties are TOO AWESOME. I adore. I love that they are totally unexpected, but still very cuddly baby appropriate.
