Alien Hominid, Chibi Kawaii Cat, Bunny and Bear Amigurumi Patterns
I was working on a new pattern for a flexible pattern that could be made into various cute, chibi-style animals or humanoid forms, when my husband pointed out how well suited the head shape was to make the pattern into an Alien Hominid. Not content with just a kitty, bear and bunny rabbit, and eager to implement any aspect of nerdery possible, I endeavored to make his dreams come true and set about crafting him his very own Alien Hominid, which he adores.
This pattern is a flexible chibi-style pattern that can be modified to make any cute chibi style animal or humanoid. The oversize head, disproportionate limbs and tiny pot bellied body seal the pattern in the genre of chibi-deformed cuties. It is quite simple and works up fast, creating a finished doll around 4 inches tall in around 1 hour for most experienced crocheters. I have included patterns for bear, cat and rabbit ears and tails, however point out that a cat ear could be stitched to the front of a face to make a bird beak and bunny ears applied to the side of a head upside down make uncanny floppy dog ears. In other words, it is a versatile pattern, so go nuts and let your imagination get the best of you.
This pattern was made with a 3.5mm hook going through both loops and worked in continuous rounds (spiral) out joining. I used a 3.5mm hook and Lily Sugar n’ Cream, Peaches & Cream and Bernat Handicrafter Cotton but any yarn will do.

I like how the chibi amigurumi looks, but I have trouble making them…
Somehow I mess already up the head. Is there a trick how to count properly? Somehow i seem to mess up with the 4th row.
I’m happy with every tipp you could have
Sometimes it’s just practice. It takes a while to get comfortable with “what a stitch looks like” which is pretty key to making sure you have enough and don’t have too many. In any case if you use stitch markers every x stitches and frequently count it will help keep you on track. Practice makes perfect but honestly don’t sweat it too much. If you add an extra stitch here of there it’s not going to significantly affect your finished piece. Once the pattern starts decreasing you ca just throw in an extra decrease to get rid of it. It’s not really worth sweating in my opinion.

I love ur pattern it looks great
Hi there!
Yay we both like crochet and videogames<3 haha I really like your Alien Hominid/Chibi Kawaii Cat pattern! They're super adorable ^-^ Since they're about 4 inches tall when finished, I was wondering… For the entire pattern (head, limbs, body), if I were to double the amount of stitches for each round, would that give me the same proportional Chibi Cat but bigger and taller? Or would it be out of proportion? Thank you! (:
If you simply double, it will be out of proportion and weird. You have to remember, if you double in width, you also need to double in height. So for example, if the first round calls for 6 stitches then the second round calls for 6 increases (12), to double it, your first round would be 6 stitches, second round would be 6 increases (12), third round would be 6 stitches and 6 increases (18) and fourth round would be 12 stitches and 6 increases (24). You would have double the amount of stitches in width (24 vice 12) and would have doubled the amount of rows over which those stitches are worked.
Ooo I see then. Thanks for the explanation! (: Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for this pattern! I’m making my boyfriend one for Christmas :3
I started crocheting the head, and even though the pattern says the finished doll should be around 4 inches tall, I ended up with a HUGE head. Do you have a picture of your hand or something I can use to compare the size of these suckers? I was using medium weight yarn and a 4 mm hook, so I’m not sure what I did wrong there.
Thanks in advance.
I used a 3.5mm hook which would make a significantly tighter stitch and small finished object. That may account for the size of the head being larger. The thing is, the other pieces will be proportionate so it will be a larger version of the same thing. The only pictures I have are up as the dolls have been given away.
I recently used this pattern to help my sister make a Tamaki doll for her friend!
(Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club) (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73384752/photo.JPG) Thank you so much! It’s a really versatile pattern :]
Hi! I am a beginner. If I wanted to make a bigger bunny or bear, like 8 inches instead of 4, would I just double everything?
Thanks!
Not really no. Have a look at the comments on the Kirby pattern, someone asked a similar question.
Hi, I’m Helen, and I wanted to get your permission to sell these products I made with your patterns, I will give you credit and leave more info with the product to let the consumer know about you . If you reject, I understand, but please reply soon, THANK YOU
Yes that is fine, please read the FAQ for more information.
I’m on step 7 of body and had a brain fart where it says invisible decrease, single crochet x3 repeat x3 ive been decreasing once then sc then decreasing etc. Something tells me I’m doing it wrong? Thanks for sharing your creations.
It means do: invisble decrease then single crochet, single crochet, single crochet. The repeat tat entire sequence three more times.
Thanks so much for the quick reply!!

Thanks for your awesomeness! Quick question though … Do you finish off all the body parts by decreasing and sewing in the ends, or do you leave them open and sew to the main body part? Confusing question! Sorry
! Thank yooooou.
The instructions will tell you. For example “finish off and sew shut” is tell you to sew it closed, whereas finish off and leave long tail for sewing, means cut the yarn and pull it through so there is no risk of unraveling but save enough yarn to stitch to another piece at a later time. It depends on the piece. In this particular pattern, the only thing you are sewing shut is the head. All other pieces will be attached.
Brilliant
, thank you, that makes a lot more sense.
I do cross stitching so i know how to do it i just cant get it to look how you do lol it looksong like boxy i guess you could say. But great job on it
How did you get the mouth to curve like that on the bunny?
It’s embroidered that way
They are so cute! What size are the safety eyes for the dolls?
The eyes used in these dolls were 8mm eyes
What did you use for the alien antenna? They look like litte matches >.< I'm nearly finished with mine now but can't think of what to use for his antenna!! Thanks so much for all your patterns, I love them all so much =]
I used bobby pins that i broke in two at the bend and dipped the tip in fabric paint to make the coloured glob. I dipped the broken end in a bit of fabric glue before sticking it into the alien’s head so it would stay put. It wouldn’t be appropriate for a child’s toy because the antennae are not very secured but they stay in place very nicely.
Oh! thanks so much thats a great idea. It should be fine since its for my husband
Who also loves your work by the way. He’s pushing me to make him that big daddy but I told him we should take it down a notch and start with the alien until my skill gets a little better haha. Thanks so much =]
what size safety eyes did you use for the bunny, bear, and cat? I’m gonna shop for more safety eyes and would be uber grateful for the sizes.
I believe they were 8mm. You could use 6mm too if you wanted a smaller eye.
I really really love this pattern!
I just learnt how to crochet a week ago and yesterday I made an amigurumi with this pattern. It turned out pretty awesome.
I’m now making my best friend her favourite anime character, using your pattern (I hope you don’t mind…) If it’s done I can send you a picture! (Or you might want to look at my website, because I write a lot about my amigurumis lately)
Thank you so much for the pattern~

I LOOOVE your craftiness and I feel you are the best teacher for this on youtube. I am a beginner with Amigurumi and I have no problem creating each piece but how do you join them together? Is there another video for that on your site somewhere? Thanks for the helP!
I am planning to do a tutorial on this, but in the meantime, here is a fairly good one from planetjune http://www.planetjune.com/blog/how-to-join-amigurumi/ I can’t find the link right now since I can’t load youtube from here, but roxycraft has a really good video tutorial on this. The only thing I would add to it is that pinning the parts in place with head pins is really helpful as well
Thank you!!!

I can’t begin to describe how much I love your crochet designs/patterns! I’ve posted some links to your site in a post on my blog and I swear, people click on them every day!
Im a little confused while following this pattern. How do i make 7 sc out of just 2 ch…?
This is working in the round, the first round contains seven stitches in either the second CH from the hook or a magic ring. This tutorial video demonstrates using 6 SCs instead of 7 but it gives you an idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dcb3Olb3L_M

Will definitely be posted on my new blog (and forum..though I’m the only member so far…haha).
Thanks for this very cute pattern! I’ve got lots of ideas already, and it will be a good way to use up some leftover yarn I have in my stash.
Please take a look at my blog – there’s a robot pattern there that you may find nicely nerdy
